7 Steps to Your First Commission

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. Don't skip ahead — the foundation matters.

01

Understand What Affiliate Marketing Is

Day 1

Before you earn a single dollar, you need to understand the model. Affiliate marketing is simple: you promote a company's product or service using a unique link. When someone clicks your link and makes a purchase, you earn a commission. No inventory. No customer service. No upfront cost.

BWM Tip: Don't overthink this step. The concept is simple — the skill is in execution, which BWM teaches you.

02

Choose Your Niche

Days 2–3

A niche is the specific topic or audience you'll focus on. The more targeted your niche, the easier it is to build trust and convert visitors into buyers. You don't need to be an expert — you just need to be one step ahead of your audience.

List 5 topics you're passionate about or knowledgeable in
Research whether those topics have affiliate programs
Check if there's an audience searching for content in that niche
Pick one niche and commit to it for at least 90 days

BWM Tip: Popular niches include personal finance, health and wellness, technology, online business, and education. All of these have high-paying affiliate programs.

03

Pick Your Platform

Days 3–5

You need a place to share your affiliate links and build an audience. This could be a blog, YouTube channel, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, or email list. You don't need all of them — start with one and master it.

Decide between written content (blog), video (YouTube/TikTok), or social (Instagram/Pinterest)
Set up your chosen platform — create your account or website
Define your content style and posting schedule
Start creating content around your niche before you even have affiliate links

BWM Tip: Beginners often do best starting with a blog or YouTube channel because content lives forever and continues earning passively.

04

Apply to Affiliate Programs

Days 5–7

Once you have a platform, it's time to apply to affiliate programs. BWM has curated a list of the top-paying, most trusted programs available. These are companies that pay millions every year to affiliates just like you.

Review the BWM curated affiliate programs list
Apply to 3–5 programs that match your niche
Set up your affiliate dashboard for each program
Generate your unique affiliate links

BWM Tip: You don't need a huge audience to get approved. Many programs accept beginners. Start applying early.

05

Create Content That Converts

Weeks 2–4

Content is how you attract your audience and earn commissions. The best affiliate content educates, entertains, or solves a problem — and naturally includes your affiliate links. Think product reviews, tutorials, comparison articles, and "best of" lists.

Write or record your first 5 pieces of content
Include affiliate links naturally within your content
Add clear calls-to-action that encourage clicks
Use SEO basics to help your content get found on Google

BWM Tip: Honesty builds trust. Only promote products you believe in. Your audience can tell the difference.

06

Drive Traffic to Your Content

Ongoing

Great content means nothing if no one sees it. Traffic is the lifeblood of affiliate marketing. There are two types: free (organic) traffic from search engines and social media, and paid traffic from ads. BWM teaches both.

Share your content on social media platforms
Learn the basics of SEO to rank on Google
Build an email list from day one
Engage with communities in your niche (forums, Facebook groups, Reddit)

BWM Tip: Consistency beats perfection. Post regularly, even if it's not perfect. Volume and consistency build momentum.

07

Track, Optimize, and Scale

Month 2+

Once you start getting traffic and clicks, it's time to analyze what's working and double down. The affiliates who earn the most are the ones who treat it like a business — tracking data, testing strategies, and scaling what works.

Set up Google Analytics or a similar tracking tool
Monitor which content drives the most clicks and conversions
Test different calls-to-action and link placements
Reinvest early earnings into tools or paid traffic to scale faster

BWM Tip: Your first $100 is the hardest. After that, scaling becomes much more predictable.
